Become a Nurse with a BSN from Mercer

Mercer University’s traditional prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) track prepares you with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on clinical experience to succeed on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) and make an impact as a nurse.

What is a Traditional Prelicensure BSN?

Prelicensure nursing programs are for students who do not have a nursing license and want to earn a BSN degree and qualify to sit for the NCLEX exam. Mercer’s traditional prelicensure BSN is a two-year track, and students will complete core curriculum and prerequisite coursework before applying for admission to the College of Nursing to begin nursing school.

What are Mercer graduates saying?

Hannah Skotarczak

I feel that Mercer strongly prepared me to become a nurse with the variety of clinical rotations and simulations that were consistently included in the program. During nursing school, I had the opportunity to apply for the Pediatric Elective Program (PEP), which is a very selective program that accepts only a few students from surrounding colleges. I was one of the few who was selected to participate in this program that directly partnered with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I feel like this opportunity was only possible with the help of Mercer’s BSN program because they frequently assisted us with resume preparation and interview skills.

I started as a PEP student, continued as a patient care tech, completed my nursing practicum, and started as a nurse all on the same unit. Without Mercer’s preparation, I don’t know if I’d be where I am today.

Mercer prepared me to become a nurse through the myriad of clinical opportunities, simulations, and class assignments that pushed me to improve my critical thinking and develop the skills necessary to be successful as a new grad nurse in the workforce. Mercer has relationships with many hospitals around Georgia that allow you to experience the diverse patient population, determine which specialty area you connect with, and begin building relationships with other healthcare workers in these areas.

Mercer provided me with the knowledge I needed to be successful while developing my clinical skills as a new grad.
